“Third Party Funding of International Arbitrations”

ICC Georgia Arbitration Commission and Dechert Georgia are delighted to invite you to attend the “Third Party Funding of International Arbitrations” seminar by guest speaker Philip Dunham, an international arbitration practitioner with more than two decades of practice.

The event will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 17:00 at the Dechert Georgia office (34 Chavchavadze Ave., Pixel Building, 7th Floor).

Guest speaker Philip Dunham is a partner at Dechert LLP based in the Paris office. His practice has been concentrated on international arbitration since 1992. He is an experienced counsel and arbitrator, working under the rules of the UNCITRAL, the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, the Arbitration Institution of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes.

The seminar will cover the topic of third party funding in international arbitration disputes. The practice of third party funding is a relatively new practice that typically involves a third party financing arbitration for parties who wish to initiate international legal proceedings but do not have the necessary funding. It is a controversial practice because while it allows access to those who might not be able to otherwise obtain access to justice, it also raises questions about the capability of independence on behalf of an arbitrator or expert witness chosen by the funding party.  Mr. Dunham will address third party funding in arbitration and how it is affecting international arbitration.  A debate will follow the presentation, which will be moderated by Dechert´s international resident partner based in Tbilisi, Nicola Mariani.

We hope that you will be able to join us.
